L.A. County Fair

I drove all the way there by myself without freaking out even once! That may be a miracle. We had a great day until I lost my brand new phone down the toilet at Dino Adventure! So sad. The fairgrounds are really beautiful and we got to go in the morning on "field trip day" so it was a nice crowd: Moms and kids - pretty great! (These pictures are terrible - I think my camera may be dying)

Cali and Noah are ONE!

Cali's First Birthday actually occurred on August 22 - the same day our Ellie turned 11. Our lives this time last year were dominated by Cali's birth, and Ellie's 10th BD got little attention from her parents/siblings. To make up for that, Ellie had a fun Birthday party this year and we put off celebrating Cali's 1st for a few weeks.

It was this weekend when we finally had a birthday party for our sweet little one, Cali. We had a combo party with her cousin, Noah, who is just a few weeks younger. It was a great day and we wish more of our family could have shared it with us. I hope that seeing these pictures will let all those we love share in the fun of that day!

Off to Neverland...

Tread carefully, there are pirates about!

Wendy (and Nana) elude danger and...

befriend Pan and Tinkerbell.

Oh no! Peter has been captured by the dreaded pirates!

The very clever Peter was soon able to escape with the help of Tinkerbell and her fairy friends!

The pirates, distraught by the loss of their captive, Peter Pan, find solace in their cell phones...

and the television set!

John Darling suggests that a celebration of Pan's escape be had in the Lost Boys' hide-out!

The great celebration included many games, like Guess the One-Year-Olds' Weight and Height, a favorite at Neverland!

Darts were enthusiastically thrown at Captain Hook!

Just when the Treasure Hunt was to begin, the celebration was disrupted! The pirates, led by the fearsome Captain Hook, discovered the hide-out and crashed the party.

So merry was the celebration and so happy were those in attendance, all agreed to make a truce with the pirates and invite them to join in the fun and games.

(It must be said that some never fully trusted Hook, since he was spied throwing darts at his own likeness! What manner of man would do such a thing?!?)

The Treasure Hunt begins!

Wendy and Princess Tiger Lilly take the lead.

(It must also be said that some became concerned over Hook's commitment to the truce as they witnessed the"dangerous manner" in which he frantically searched the Treasure Map for clues to said treasure!)

The booty is found!

The treasure was distributed equally among all participants, creating an atmosphere of friendship and sharing that lasted the remainder of the day...almost!

Near the end of the festivities, a baby race was had! Peter Pan and Tinkerbell vied against eachother in a heated competition of speed and agility for a prize worth more then all the treasure to be found in Neverland: Cake! The pirates cheered for the lovely Tinkerbell; everyone else for the brave Pan! The race became so intense, the opposing teams forgot the truce and took up arms against one another. They were too busy in battle to take notice that in the end, Tink and Peter came together and shared their first taste of Birthday Cake!

The pirates were eventually banished (but vowed revenge as they retreated to their ship). Those who remained finally noticed the fair and honorable way Peter and Tinkerbell had ended their race. They were so impressed with this good behavior, they showered the boy and his fairy with gifts!

Unfortunately, the wonderful celebration could not go on forever. Tinkerbell, dirty and tired from the long day, stood and announced that the fun was over; it was time for everyone to go home!

She then went to bed and dreamed of eye patches, and fairy wings, and frosting, and loved-ones.

Surely, this day of celebration will go down in history has the greatest ever known in Neverland!
